Default If you could change the weapon system....

what would you change?

These are my thoughts:

Whites: Ehm no change I guess
Blues: Gone from game
Purples: Uninscripted, perhaps non-max dmg
Golds: Inscriptable, max dmg possible
Greens: Add lesser/greater, lessers drop in nm and have 75-80% of the mods (+25 hp instead of +30hp for example)
Customize: Weapon can be used by different char but does not receive 20% bonus

Allow the option of either +20% damage or a small amount of energy when customizing.

Umm... Can you give a reason to eliminate blues? I know they're usually not worth using, but if I was getting my first weapon for a character, I'd rather it would have at least one mod than none, as compared to a white.

I do agree with Purples shouldn't be inscribable.

It's too late to do that big of an overhaul on the greens, but it would make the value go up.

I don't know if this is a thread I can /sign or /notsign.

But yea, my thoughts are posted, I guess.

Make golds actually rare again. I used to get like 1 gold item for every 50 hours of game time. Now I can get like 20 golds in 3 hours.

When deleting Blues, there you could also say.. deleting whites.. has the same effect imo in the end.
------------------

What I would change:

Give the game alot more options for customization, other then only +20% Damage.

Examples for additional Customize Effects:

+ Additional Max Energy
+ stacking +% chance of quicker reloading of equipped Skilsl in Skill Bar
+ Reduce Skill Cost by X of all your Skills
+ x% Elemental Damage
+ x% additional Damage vs. a certain Species of Enemies (higher then 20%)
+ +1 of Life or Energy Regeneration
+ x% Chance of parrying Melee Attacks with your Weapon (a bit higher, than Counter Attack Chance)
+ x% Chance of Counter Attacking Melee Attacks
+ Increase of Adrenaline Gain by x/hit
+ Slight Increase of Attack Speed with the Weapon (its at least customized to your Character, your character will know best, how to handle his own weapon most best, then anyone else)

that would make weapons much more individual, also characters which weild their customized weapons will be more individual, by such a change - increasing the possible ways of customizing weapons.

What more ?

Improve the Weapon System by implementing more Weapon types, that are still missing, like 2H Swords/Axes, Morningstars, Shurikens, Boomerangs, Lances/Halberds, Claws and Bare Handed Martial Arts, 2H Battle Staffs, Nunchakus, Whips, Blade-Fans, and other exotic ones, like Music Instruments, hwich can be abused as weapons (Harps, Flutes, Guitars ect.)

But that would mean naturally either improving all existing classes (what can't be realised on all), or implemeting more new Professions, which can bring into the game the new game mechanics and weapons.
----------

Improve the Weapon System, by enabling finally for certain types of Weapons the ability of "Dual Weilding", like Dual 1H Swords, Dual 1H Axes, Dual Claws and Daggers ( so should have been done from the Start on the Daggers...Assassins should have been the class, which should have brought into the Game the Dual Weild System of Weapons, but Anet failed at that)
---------------

Improve the whole Weapon System and the Fight System around it by implementing a Combo-System, that enables characters in parties to perform special Combo-Attacks.

But all that will be too late for GW1, hope all that will find into GW2, making GW2's battle system alot more interesting, giving it alot more ACTION, and not so looking, as if two childs play with their plastic figures against each other.
The Battle System of other MMO's, like Lineage 2 our douzens of different F2P-MMORPG's looks much more real and full of action, then anet, those games are mostly those asian ones, which battle styles are more based of chinese/japanese ect. martial arts and thus end up looking much quicker, more like nice medieval fantasy battles, we all imagine from huge war battles and so on from movies.

Compare the battle system only with agile fight scenes of animated movies, like Final Fantasy 7 AC, or from FMV Sequeces from games liek WoW or LA2...when the battle system of GW2 would look as much as agile and full of action, like in these videos, then would become GW2 really increadible cool.
----------

What would i change about these merged 2 systems more?

ah yah.. totally by the player self craftable weapons ... create a Blackmith (could be one of x douzens of possible new professions) Character for your account, that will forge with enough materials Weapons for your account, where you can unlock by playing over time more and more weapon/armor skins ect to become avaiable and when you forge for your accoutn then a weapon, the player can decide, how the weapon should look, by choosing the weapon skin, then decide , which bonus effects it should get (naturally only, when you have all the required normal and rare materials for them) and once your Weapon is forged, the player will become able to name the weapon and with giving the weapon a name, it will become auto customized to the account, will be untradeable, unsellable and can be only destroyed by throwing it into the garbage ton.

Which extra material the Blacksmith would be then also able to give the weapon additional animated effects and by refining it would be possible to increase several times the max damage power of it (for pve only) so refining a weapon would result in a notification, that the weapon has become only usable in pve then and can't be used anymore in pvp battles...

theres imo really much potential in improving much around the Weapon,- Battle- and Crafting Systems for GW2

In my opinion blues and purples are basically the same. You can have max dmgs blues, they are inscriptable, and can be upgraded with whatever mods you happen to have. Don't need 2 of the same, now I know that the drops are better on purples than on blues but meh its pretty much a wash as far as I'm concerned.

You can get a gold drop every ~1-4 minutes in HM...
Killing lots of things fast is key.

On topic: All collector and crafter weapons are "blue" weapons. Any "white" item with a mod added magically turns it "blue." All bonus, pre-order, and BMP weapons are "blue." A max damage "blue" weapon with "perfect" mods is identical in every way to a "gold" one save text color and merchant value. Don't eliminate them, please. New players need something to use, and gold(money, not rare items) is not supposed to hinder you in this game.

/notsigned for removing "blue" weapons

Too many things have been done wrong in the past, and it's probably too late to fix that.
If only they at least did it right, made it work like they said it does...

If only they really did it this way - only some of the Gold item drops in Elona (and EotN) would have inscriptions and inscription slots, not all golds, not purples, not blues (maybe except some collector/crafter items), it wouldn't be such a disaster.
Inscribable max item is like an instant perfect at will after adding cheap components - they should have never been made common.
Obviously Tyria and Cantha should remain free of them.

As for greens, I must say that all those easily farmable ones - ones dropping from bosses that can be found in explorable areas, thus can be easily overfarmed in large quantities (post Factions stupid system), should have never been made 'perfect'. The ones that aren't that easily accessible, like inside Sorrows Furnace or DoA, or in Dungeons level 2+ bosses and end chests could be perfect ones.

Change the weapons system?

Ranger weapons:
- Note the +10% armor penetration in horn bow just like any other property. Currently is a 'hidden' property.

Warrior weapons:
- Rename swordmanship to 'Light weapons'. Change all the swords to the 'small skin' axes, hammers and swords.
- Rename axe mastery to 'Heavy weapons'. Change all the swords to 'medium skin' axes, hammers and swords.
- Rename hammer mastery to 'Two handed weapons'. Change all the hammer skins to the huge axe, sword and hammer skins.

New Weapons:
- Add a whip(both hands) linked to beast mastery with nearby range.
- Add a shuriken(both hands) linked to deathly arts linked with half casting range.
- Add single(scepters) and two handed(quarterstaves) melee weapons linked to any caster attribute.

One skin <-> One name. Unify the naming system for all skins worldwide. Regardless of campaign and place dropping. That includes collector and reward weapons (Like the crystalline longsword).

Rarity:
*Common items. Unidentified prices: 1g. Identified price: 2..100g. Not dyable, drops always dyed gray. Will drop with only one or no upgrades.
*Uncommon item. Unidentified prices: 5g. Identified prices: 25..250g. Not dyable, drop always undyed (skin base color). Will drop with 1 or two upgrades.
*Rare items. Unidentified prices: 10g. Identified prices. 50..500g. Dyable, drops undyed. Will always drop with 2 or 3 upgrades, at least one of them max.
*Unique items: Unidetified prices: 0g (can' be sold). Indentified prices: 0g (can't be sold). Not dyable. Custom dye. In NM may drop not perfect if the monster is level 19 or less. In HM will ALWAYS drop perfect.

Coloring:
- Common with no upgrades: White.
- Common with one upgrades: Blue
- Uncommon: Purple.
- Rare: Light Orange (Gold).
- Unique: Green.
- Quest reward/Quest related: Lime green.
- Collector items: Dark blue name.
- Crafted items: Yellow name.
- PvP Rewards: Red.

Customization:
- Martial weapons and wands: current +20% damage.
- Staves: +2 energy, +5% chances of 50% recharge spells.
- Foci: +3 energy.
- Shields: +4 armor.

- PvE-only upgrade slot:
*of Slaying (+damage versus race)
*Highly Salvageable (it would stop being an inscription and turn into a PvE-only upgrade)
*Increased price (same as Highly salvageable)
*Indestructible (won't break when salvaged)
*25% chances of causing <condition>.
*+10% attack speed.
*+10% casting speed.
*+10% armor penetration.
*+7 energy.
*+70HP.
*Etc.

Weapon upgrade traders.
*Add more upgrades for foci, wands and shields.
*Add to the PvP panel some upgrades currently only available as drops like the +1(20) to a certain attribute (currently it's only Mastery, so you can add to an energy storage staff or foci a +1fire if you want).

And, of course, inscriptions dropping anywhere worldwide. (Don't you think I would forget about that, XD)

More or less that's how it should be the weapon system.

1. Make the pvp reward point items unlocked for the account, instead of just crafted one time (and maybe make it so that you have to 'unlock' an item multiple times to have multiple copies of it in inventory at once. Like, you unlock it 3 times to have 3 simultaneous copies, which would also allow meeting the quota to unlock the next tier up). I've never spent my reward points from the monthly picks on items, since I only have one pvp slot and I don't want to devote it to one profession with one set of gear. Then again, maybe it's good to only make those items useful for the hard-core pvp'ers with pvp slots for each prof they play, but that doesn't really justify implementing them since such a tiny number of people can make good use of them.

2. Make customized items customized for the account, not the character (possibly by making them not tradable/droppable, but still storagable if it's too complicated to expand the customization code to be account-wide).

3. I've always kind of wished there were two handed swords and axes that did more damage but attacked slower, something like a hammer, and I guess one handed hammers. And while I'm at it two handed spears for paragons that have melee range would be kind of neat, but if they did any more damage than paragons already do it'd be kind of ridiculous. These weapons would use the current Swordsmanship, Axe Mastery etc.

EDIT: 4. I also wish the 20% fast cast/recharge mods were more along the lines of 10% better casting time/recharge (20% * 50% = 10%), guaranteed on every cast. Or perhaps make it a new type of mod, since I'm sure some people would prefer the current system.

I still think that colour should be tagged to number of mods, and colours change when mods are put on or removed.

White = no mods
Blue = one mod, lower grade mod
Purple = two mods, medium grade mods
Gold = three mods, near-max and max mods
Green = three mods, max mods

If you want stuff to be rare, Collector stuff should not be modifiable at all, and should have 2 mods max. Also, removing Perfect Salvage kits would help.

Weapon stats should also be tagged to the zone that they drop. Stop dropping way below stat weapons in high level areas.

A 15-21 (Req 13) White sword is as equally useless to a 11-16 (Req 7) White sword, but I feel better getting that when I kill a level 30 dude.

My opinion:

Weapon Types:
-Warrior:
--Change warrior weapon system to "Light Weapons," and "Heavy" weapons.
--Remove Swordsmanship and Axe Mastery, make that Light Weapon Mastery.
--Rename Hammer Mastery as Heavy Weapon Mastery.
--Large swords, axes, and hammers go under Heavy Weapon Mastery, Small swords, axes, and hammers go under Light Weapon Mastery.
--Light Weapons can be dual-wield weapons as well as one hand.
--Add other polearm weapons under Heavy Weapon Mastery.

-Ranger:
--Add a whip, linked to Beast Mastery, two-handed, has same range as shortbow.
--Replace Recurve Bows with Crossbows.

-Caster Professions:
--Add wands/scepters and staves that deal melee damage, same set-up as current wands and staves for attribute linking.

-Assasin:
--Add one hand daggers.
--add shiriken, linked to deadly arts, has same range as shortbow.

-Paragon:
--Let spears be either throwable or melee.

Rarity Set-Up:
-White:remove from game
-Blue:never inscribable, high requirements, never max, not dyeable
-Purple:50-50 chance of inscribable, average requirements, hardy max, dyeable
-Gold:75% chance of inscribable, low or average requirements, almost always max, dyeable
-Normal Mode Greens:never max mods(example: 15/15 sundering, 10^50, +25 mods), not dyeable, 75% drop rate
-Hard Mode Greens:always max mods, 25% drop rate, dyeable

Custimization:
2 types of custimization: Basic and Advance
-Basic:Only character(and heroes) can use weapon, cost 10g, bonus options(+10% dmg, +5 eng, HCT 10%, or HSR 10%)
-Advance: all characters on account can use (and all heroes), cost 25g, bonus options (+20% dmg, +10 eng, HCT 20%, or HSR 20%)

Incribing: Allows you to inscribe uninscribed weapons
-Blue:50g
-Purples:100g
-Golds:500g
-Greens: 0g (uninscribable)

Although I highly doupt that the weapon system will change in GW, perhaps this thread will give a good idea on how to change it *for the better* for GW2

That's exactly my point, it's FAR too easy to obtain perfect weapons and the only real difference being the color of the text and occasionally a rarer skin. There should be some difference between a blue weapon and a gold weapon beyond the color of the text. Majority of greens drop max with max mods, yet they are so common they have nearly no value. You can spend hours spamming in towns trying to sell a max item but because EVERYTHING is max it has to be q 9 or lower for any interest in it.

I put to get rid of whites because I knew someone would think of this. But if you get rid of blues, the weapons from the /bonus, pvp weps, and collector items would just change color out of fairness.
